The Place

Sardinia is the place where sea and rocks find a new dimension and merge into one, creating a unique set of colors, sceneries and emotions. Climbing here is a recent discovery of the ‘80s,  but it continuously developed in the past 4 decades and now the island counts more than 4000 single pitches. Limestone is the king in the island, but you will also find some granite jewels like Capo Pecora and the climbing styles range from friction slab to steep overhangs. The island has something for everybody, you only need some local help to get the best out of it!

Climbing Sardinia with Mapo Tapo

One week fully immersed in the beauty of Sardinia, specifically on the south-west coast in the Iglesias, Domusnovas and Buggerru area.  The whole trip will be guided by a certified alpine guide.

  • For the whole trip you will be joined by Marco Bigatti, the first and only certified alpine guide in the island
  • 6 nights at the stunning B&B “Pedra Rubia” in the south west of the Island. This is not your typical B&B, but it is a climber house!
  • 1 Day of photo-shooting with professional climbing photographer
  • New-Year’s eve dinner and celebration with local food!
  • Welcome Dinners at the B&B
  • Free last-minute cancellation in case it’s impossible for you to travel for COVID19-related issues (positive test-result, travel ban, forced quarantine upon return)
  • Mapo Tapo supports the development of climbing in the area: we re-invest part of revenues to work with locals to boost sustainable tourism
For those who dare to look up the island offers countless possibilities for climbing, mainly on very compact and beautiful limestone.
In every place, Mapo Tapo looks for an extraordinary local climber, so that you can see each place through a local’s eyes.
In Sardinia we picked Marco: born in north of Italy, Marco relocated to Sardinia and became the first certified alpine guide in the Island and opened up a beautiful B&B.
The B&B is run by Marco and Tiziana whose goal is to promote this off-the-beaten track area of Sardinia where mass tourism is not arrived yet.
And well, it offers the best views on the Western Coast of Sardinia!
We talked about limestone, but you also have some granite gems like Capo Pecora where it’s very easy to forget where you are.
In any case we promise you, there is rock for everybody and the good thing of being with the locals is that they can advice you at any time to make sure you keep smiling.
You can choose your favorite side, steep overhang on one side, and easy slabs on the other, the view at the top is the same, no judgement, choose your favorite way up!
And finally, do not forget to look behind yourself, there might be an amazing view!

Climbing Skills

This is a climbing trip for climbers but no min. level is required, since Marco is a full certified mountain guide. What is needed is an adventurous attitude and thirst for exploration! You will find grades ranging from 5+ to 8+ and all the crags will be selected depending on the level and the preferences of the group. The good thing of climbing with the locals is that you can decide last minute depending on the weather and wind conditions to always get the best out of the day!

Liability

Mapo Tapo selects crags and local partners with the utmost care. We can for any inaccuracies, however, accept no liability. Rock climbing is a risk sport that takes place in nature. Ultimately, you are fully responsible for the choices you make. Mapo Tapo recommends that anyone who does not have sufficient knowledge not to go outdoor alone.
