Skiing Skills

Skiing Skills

Due to the nature of the area's terrain, a minimum level is required for this trip. You will need to be able to ski a black piste with relative ease and ideally have some ski-touring experience. A good level of fitness is required for the uphill sections of this experience. The trip is open to both skiers and snowboarders (with a splitboard).

Ultimately, you are fully responsible for the choices you make. Mapo Tapo recommends that anyone who does not have sufficient knowledge to go outdoors accompanied by a certified mountain guide.

FAQs

You should be comfortable skiing black slopes and ideally have some previous ski-touring experience.

No, we'll meet directly at the SkyWay cable car station in Courmayeur.

If you're in Courmayeur town, you can get to SkyWay station by bus or private car.

For safety reasons, the maximum group size is limited to 7 participants.

Yes, consider bringing general snow-alpinism clothes for added comfort and safety, plus hot drinks in a thermos.

No, the ski-touring gear (skis, skins, poles, boots, ARTVA, helmet) is not included. That being said, you guide can help you getting everything you need for an extra cost.

Let's say in general that the outdoors, especially in the case of activities with objective risks (climbing, mountaineering, ski mountaineering, to name but a few), is an environment where the choice of the certified guide leading the group prevails.  This is because, in these cases, the guide is contractually responsible for your actions and safety. Of course, you are free to make suggestions to the guide, but ultimately the choice to do something or go to a particular place depends on the guide's decision and judgement. The fact that the guide does not accept suggestions/plan changes can occur mainly for two reasons: (a) objective risk (rock or water conditions, etc.); (b) weather risk. If, for example, it takes too long to reach a specific place and the weather is already a little unstable, the guide has every right to prefer a closer place or to sound the alarm earlier so that it is safer/closer.
