What you'll do

The Dalmatia region in Croatia is a dreamland for both climbers and sailors. Seventy-nine islands (and an infinite number of islets) run parallel to the coast, among which Brač, Pag, and Hvar are the largest. There is everything from bouldering, to short well-bolted sport routes, super long sport and trad routes, to deep water soloing. Icio and Marina's climbing and sailing experiences - including climbing stories of first ascents around the world, and cross-continental sailing journeys - will entertain you throughout the whole trip.It is an expedition, not a 5* holiday: get ready to help out in the sailing maneuvers and climb in really off-the-beaten-track crags!

Itinerary

Arrive in Milna, get familiar with your sailing home-for-the-week and meet Icio, Marina, and your climbing mates! Don't forget to set your alarm clock for the next day. Check-in is on Sunday at 3 PM.
Off sailing! You will arrive in Hvar and spend the day climbing at Cliffbase, a private crag personally bolted by its owner. The day ends with a fish-based dinner at the port restaurant and a visit to its sunken wine cellar!
An early morning climb at Cliffbase and setting sail again! Directions: A local bay on the other side of the island. This afternoon is to chill - you can have a nice swim, some rest, or sup your way through the surrounding coves.
You know how it goes: wake up at dawn and off to the next adventure! You will sail towards Stari Grad, rent a car and get to the crag. You'll climb in the afternoon, and as soon as you get off the crag, you can jump in the water of a nice bay nearby.
In case you have not got enough of it yet, you will spend the morning climbing around Stari Grad, in some island crags! You will leave by midday, and after a few hours of sailing, you will get to another bay where you can rest.
It is your last day of climbing, and you want to get the most out of it! You will sail back to Milna in the early morning and climb some inland crags nearby. If you feel like it, a special dinner awaits you at the port restaurant: the traditional Croatian peka.
It is time to go back home - yes, already! Check-out is on Saturday by 10 AM.

Icio (an alpine legend, mind you) and Marina are wonderful hosts. We sailed to beautiful bays with perfect blue waters, climbing and having wonderful food. From reaching the crag by kayak to actually bolting our own route, I collected so many nice memories to bring back home (including being at the helm of a boat, carried by the wind). Thank you both for your generosity and hospitality. I won't forget you.

My husband and I did the Mapo Tapo sailing and climbing trip in Croatia at the end of August of 2024, and we can’t stop talking about how amazing our experience was! Prior to signing up for the trip Giulia, one of the representatives from Mapo Tapo, answered all of our questions. Once in Croatia Marina and Icio, our hosts and guides, were incredibly accommodating. During this trip we not only climbed for 5 days straight, but also got a chance to learn how to sail, even enjoying exploring some of the stunning spots in Hvar island during our down time. Icio, our guide, was great at planning our climbing sessions to beat the heat wave, getting us to the climbing spots bright and early before it got too hot, or taking us deep water soloing to cool down during the hottest part of the day. And Marina, our incredible chef, kept us nourished with delicious meals all throughout the trip, accommodating any and all food restrictions our group might have. We climbed, we sailed, we ate, we laughed, we explored the beauty of Croatia’s islands all with an incredible group of people. Huge thanks to Mapo Tapo for such an amazing experience! This was our first Mapo Tapo trip, but it will definitely won’t be our last!

The overall experience was very positive considering that the weather was not on our side. Icio was able to come up with a plan B for every situation and we were able to enjoy every day. We climb different routes of varying degrees of difficulty in idyllic locations. We ate typical, healthy and varied dishes, cooked by Marina and Icio, very nice and attentive hosts.
