Join the local guide for an exciting road trip around Cyprus and discover the best rock climbing spots. Lying in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea, the island of Cyprus awaits you with a stunning combination of natural beauty, ancient history and rich culture. Due to its excellent weather, which is among the best you can find in Europe, this is an all-year-round destination. Spring and autumn are definitely the optimum time to visit the country. Cyprus offers a varied terrain for rock climbing, with many interesting routes to learn or improve your skills. During this road trip, we can visit different climbing spots around the island and mix things up with some sightseeing. Cyprus is a great choice for a climbing holiday and it also has a lot to offer if there are non climbing members in the trip. In the cultural side of the journey, you will have the opportunity to see the whole island and get to know to the local tradition.

He was born and grew up in Kyperounda, a beautiful setting within the mountains in Cyprus. Having the mountains on his doorstep, he was always curious and keen to explore them and participate in various sports and activities! Since May 2018, he is working as a full-time Mountain Guide.

DAY 1

Arrival to Cyprus!

Pick up from Larnaca airport and drive to Paphos area (1:30h). On the way we can visit Limasol and have lunch or dinner (depending on the arrival time).
Night in ''The Lodge'' in Amargeti village. A well located village retreat.

DAY 2

First day of climbing!

First rock climbing day on one of Cyprus' most famous climbing spots is locally known as Dhiarizos, an excellent compact limestone sports crag up to 28m tall. The routes here span from 3+ to 7c+ with a mix of vertical face climbing and shorter, powerful bouldery routes. The crag is well-orientated, so finding some shade is always possible. The crag is located 35' drive from our accomodation.

DAY 3

Climbing in Episkopi village!

Climbing in Episkopi village. The crag offers a variety of climbing styles with the main feature being the steep overhang wall that offers challanging climbs. This sector hosts some of Cyprus’ most challenging climbing routes thanks to the steep and powerful climbing. There are a handful of 5-star dead-vertical climbs ranging between 6b and 7c, but the majority of climbs are graded 7a or harder, all the way to 8b+, with some more challenging projects still waiting to be freed, including a possible first 9a route in Cyprus. The sector is only 16' drive from our accomodation.

DAY 4

Climb Climb Climb

Drive in the morning towards Akamas peninsula (45') and climb in the sectors around Droushia and Ineia which are scattered around different heights, styles, and difficulties. The rock here is compact sandstone, which provides excellent friction, making it a perfect environment for routes that combine vertical face climbing with tricky slab sequences. Routes here range from 3+ to 8b+, with some projects still open. Night in Palates Hotel and dinner in one of the fish taverns next to Latchi fishing port.

DAY 5

Rest or Climb?

Drive towards the mountains (2h). Although this is inteted to be a rest day from climbing the group psyched is high we can do some climbing in Madari Area. Otherwise we use the day to hike in one of the most scienic nature trails of the area and have a nice lunch before heading to Troodos to visit the highest point of the island and sattle down in our accomodation. Night in Troodos Hotel.

DAY 6

The north side of Cyprus

Crossing over to the North side of Cyprus to climb in Larnaca tis Lapithou area. The rock here is primarily made of hard crystalline limestone, which creates beautiful steep and vertical walls with many types of climbing. There are pockets, tufas, roofs, caves, tiny crimps, and beautiful cracks providing climbing styles for everyone. Grades range from 4+ to 8b, with many projects still open. Spend the evening in Nicosia where we can visit the old town for a well deserved beer and dinner. Night in Altius Boutique Hotel.

DAY 7

Last day

Drive from Nicosia back to Larnaca airport where we conclude our road trip around the best rock climbing spots that Cyprus has to offer.

The programme is very flexible to take into account weather conditions, activities level and endurance of the group.

1st - 2nd - 3rd nights: The lodge

1st - 2nd - 3rd nights: The lodge

Located in the heart of Amargeti, 20 km from Paphos City, Rustic Village Retreat Amargeti. Free WiFi is offered throughout the property. In the village of Amargeti, you will find traditional churches, restaurants, a playground and coffee shops.

4th night: Palates Hotel

4th night: Palates Hotel

Situated in the village of Droushia, Palates Hotel is a stone-built complex with well-kept gardens featuring a restaurant and a swimming pool with sun terrace. Some air-conditioned rooms enjoy views over the Mediterranean Sea.

Palates rooms are tastefully furnished each with a private balcony. They are equipped with a refrigerator and a flat-screen TV, and they all have an en-suite bathroom with shower.

5th night: Troodos Hotel

5th night: Troodos Hotel

This hotel is located just 5 km from Mount Olympus in Cyprus. It features free WiFi in common areas. Most rooms open to an enclosed balcony.

Each room offers flat-screen TV and a private bathroom with hairdryer. Some have views over Troodos Square.

6th night: Altius Boutique Hotel

6th night: Altius Boutique Hotel

Quietly located near Nicosia City Centre, Altius Boutique Hotel offers elegant accommodation, within walking distance from Prodromou Park. It features a restaurant, bar and free WiFi throughout. Conference and banquet facilities are included.

Tastefully decorated, all air-conditioned rooms and suites include a flat-screen TV with cable channels, a minibar and a lap-top size safe. A hairdryer is available in the bathroom. Some units open out to a balcony.

There is no minimum level required for this trip. However, it's better if you have some experience in lead climbing indoor or outdoor before coming.
