What you'll do

The Marangu Route, often dubbed the 'Coca Cola' route, misleadingly suggests an easy climb to Kilimanjaro's summit. In reality, it demands 5-7 days, with its popularity requiring advance hut bookings. Unique for its hut accommodations, it traverses from rainforest to arctic zones, with an acclimatization day at Horombo Huts recommended for novices. The ascent peaks at Gilman’s Point, near Uhuru Peak, and descends via the same path.

Itinerary

Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you're whisked away to Moshi town, nestled at the foot of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. This day is yours to absorb the vibrant atmosphere of Moshi or unwind in anticipation of the trek. Our team provides a comprehensive briefing in the evening, ensuring you're well-prepared and equipped for the journey ahead. We set two pick-up times: 10 AM or 3 PM. So we recommend arriving at one of these two times.
The adventure begins with a scenic drive from your lodge in Moshi to the Marangu Gate (2700m-8858ft). Stepping into the lush rainforest, the path to Mandara Hut unfolds, offering a chance to witness the forest's rich biodiversity. This trek introduces Kilimanjaro's natural beauty, culminating in an optional visit to Maundi Crater for breathtaking views. Length: 8,3 km (5,2 m) Time: 5-6 hours
An early start leads us from the cosy Mandara Hut through the forest to the open moorlands. Horombo Hut (3700m-12139ft), situated with awe-inspiring views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks, marks the end of today's trek. This day is pivotal as we advance further into Kilimanjaro's heart. Length: 12,5 km (7,8 m) Time: 8-9 hours
Acclimatization is key to a successful summit attempt. Today's leisurely hike to Zebra Rocks (4020m-13189ft), known for its unique geological stripes, aids in adjusting to the altitude. The return to Horombo Hut (3700m-12139ft) allows for rest and preparation for the forthcoming challenges. Length: 5 km (3,1 m) Time: 4-5 hours
The trek from Horombo Hut traverses the vast "saddle," a stark, alpine desert connecting Mawenzi to Kibo. Reaching Kibo Hut (4700m-15420ft), the evening is spent in quiet anticipation of the night's summit bid. This segment is crucial, setting the stage for the final ascent. Length: 9,5 km (5,9 m) Time: 7-8 hours
The summit day begins in the midnight silence, a gradual climb towards Gillman’s Point on the crater rim, followed by the final push to Uhuru Peak (5895m-19340ft). Standing atop Africa, the sunrise greets us in triumph. The descent to Horombo Hut (3700m-12139ft)offers a moment to reflect on this monumental achievement. Length: 22 km (13,7 m) Time: 12-15 hours
Our return journey winds through the heath and moorland to the lush rainforest, culminating at the Marangu Gate (1860m-6102ft). The trek back is a time of celebration, marking the completion of a journey that tests limits and rewards with unparalleled experiences. Length: 20,8 km (12,9 m) Time: 7-8 hours
A day of rest in Moshi offers a gentle transition from the high-altitude adventure to routine. Airport transfers are arranged to connect with your onward journey or flight home. We recommend leaving after dinner and having the last celebration with the guide.
