What you'll do

The Lemosho Route is favored for its low traffic, stunning scenery, and high summit success. It starts with a drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate, then two days in lush rainforests to Shira Plateau. We suggest 7-8 days for better acclimatization. It merges with the Machame Route at Shira 2 Camp, following the same path to Mweka Gate.

Itinerary

Upon our arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, we're escorted to Moshi. This day offers us leisure to explore Moshi or relax, setting the stage for our collective trek. An evening briefing and gear check to ensure we're fully prepared for the ascent. We set two pick-up times: 10 AM or 3 PM. So we recommend arriving at one of these two times.
You will be picked up around 8 AM. We journey from Lemosho Glades (2385m-7825ft) through emerald forests to Big Tree Camp (2780m-9121ft), marking our first night under Kilimanjaro's gaze. Length: 7 km (4,3 m) Time: 3-4 hours
Ascending to Shira 1 Camp (3500m-11483ft), we traverse grassy moorlands inspired by the grandeur of Kibo Peak. Length: 16,5 km (10,3 m) Time: 9-11 hours
Our path through the Shira Plateau to Shira 2 Camp (3900m-12795ft) offers a glimpse into the mountain’s vast landscapes and unique ecosystems. Length: 8 km (5 m) Time: 5-6 hours
We ascend to the Lava Tower (4640 m), then descend to Barranco Camp (3960m-12992ft), encircled by towering cliffs with expansive views below. Length: 10 km (6,2 m) Time: 6-7 hours
Tackling the Barranco Wall, we reach Karanga Camp (3963m-13002ft), where an optional acclimatization hike awaits the eager among us. Length: 5,5 km (3,4 m) Time: 5-6 hours
Ascending the barren slopes to Barafu Camp (4640m-15223ft), we prepare for our summit attempt, focusing on rest and hydration. Length: 3 km (1,9 m) Time: 3-4 hours
Our midnight trek to Uhuru Peak (5895m-19340ft) challenges us, rewarding our efforts with sunrise at Africa’s summit before descending to Millennium Camp (3790m-12434ft). Length: 13,4 km (8,3 m) Time: 12-15 hours
Descending through the rainforest, we reflect on our shared journey, culminating in a celebratory gathering in Moshi. Length: 12,1 km (7,5 m) Time: 6-7 hours
We leave Moshi, carrying the memories and achievements of our trek, ready for our onward journeys. Depending on flight times, you could explore Moshi town. We recommend leaving after dinner and having the last celebration together with the guide.
