What you'll do

There is a subtle harmony that connects the white marble of the Oslo Opera House to the ancient resin of the Borgund stave churches. It is the story of a culture that learned to listen to the Earth, transforming the verticality of the fjords into an art form and the silence of the highlands into a way of life. This itinerary invites you to discover the most authentic side of Norway through its beautiful contrasts. From the bold architecture of a revitalized Oslo, a symbol of urban evolution, we journey into the geographical and spiritual heart of the fjords. We will hike through history, climbing the Husedalen Valley past four monumental waterfalls and walking the ancient Vindhellavegen road, where time feels frozen in the age of the sagas. Exhilarating landscapes are matched by sensory experiences: the thrill of the Flåmsbana railway, the warmth of a Cider Safari through Hardanger’s blooming apple orchards, and the timeless charm of Hanseatic Bergen. This is a signature journey designed for those who seek beauty in the raw power of the elements and the privilege of a northern horizon that, under the midnight glow, never seems to fade.

Itinerary

Meeting in the afternoon (4:00 PM) at the hotel in the beating heart of Oslo. We will spend the first few hours exploring the Bjørvika district, a symbol of Norway's urban rebirth. We will walk on the sloping roof of the Opera House, a marble glacier emerging from the fjord, and visit the Deichman Library. This is the time for the technical briefing and our first group dinner to build team spirit, set against a landscape that shows no sign of getting dark. Distance: 4 km (2.5 mi) | Elevation gain and loss: 0 m (0 ft) | Time: 3 hrs
We will pick up the minivan and head west toward the Lærdal valley, the transfer will take 4 hours. Our destination is Borgund, home to the best-preserved Stave Church in the world (1180 AD). Here, the scent of thousand-year-old resin will transport us back to the era of Norse sagas. We will put on our hiking boots to walk the Vindhellavegen, an ancient royal road supported by imposing dry-stone walls. We will then continue toward the fjord through the Lærdal Tunnel, with its atmospheric blue-lit caverns. Distance: 4 km (2.5 mi) | Elevation gain: +290m (951 ft), Elevation loss: -270 m (886 ft) | Time: 1.5 hrs
The day begins aboard the legendary Flåmsbana, the railway that defies gravity as it climbs through tunnels and hairpins to Myrdal station (867m). Once at altitude, our hiking excursion begins: instead of taking the train back, we will descend into the Flåm Valley along the final stretch of the historic Rallarvegen. The trail, immersed in a silence broken only by the roar of waterfalls, runs alongside turquoise rivers and isolated farms where time seems to have stood still. In the afternoon, we will head back up by minivan to the Stegastein viewpoint, a wood and glass walkway suspended at 650 meters that offers a dizzying view of the Aurlandsfjord. Before dinner, we will leave the Sogne region and head south: a scenic transfer of about 1 hour and 30 minutes will take us into the heart of the Hardangerfjord, crossing the impressive suspension bridge over the water. Distance: 20 km (12.4 mi) | Elevation gain: 100 m (328 ft), Elevation loss: -1040 m (3412 ft) | Time: 5-6 hrs
After breakfast, a short 10-minute minivan transfer takes us to the gateway of the Husedalen Valley, one of Norway's most spectacular hiking routes. Here, we will hike up along the Kinso River, admiring four colossal waterfalls in succession (Tveitafossen, Nyastølsfossen, Nykkjesøyfossen, and Søtefossen) as they plunge from the plateau toward the fjord. The trail is a crescendo of mist, polished rocks, and lush forests. In the afternoon, we return to Lofthus for a Cider Safari: a refreshing walk through the apple orchards of the 'Orchard of Norway.' We will conclude the experience with a guided tasting at a historic farm, discovering why Hardanger cider is the only one in the world to boast a protected designation of origin. Distance: 13 km (8.1 mi) | Elevation gain: +540 m (1772 ft), Elevation gain: -490 m (1608 ft) | Time: 5 hrs
Journey toward Bergen, the historic Pearl of the Hanseatic League. Our route takes us to the thunderous Steinsdalsfossen, where you’ll experience the rare magic of walking directly behind a cascading wall of water. Upon reaching Bergen (after a 3-hour transfer), we’ll ascend via the Fløibanen funicular to witness the city unfolding beneath us. From the summit, we enjoy an urban trek through lush hilltop forests before winding our way down through the secret alleys of the UNESCO-listed Bryggen district. We’ll wrap up the day immersed in the sights and scents of the vibrant local fish market. Distance: 5 km (3.1 mi) | Time: 2 hrs
Day 6 – Vøringsfossen’s Echo on the Vidda Experience the raw, prehistoric beauty of the Hardangervidda, Europe’s largest high-mountain plateau. As we traverse this vast wilderness, the silence of the tundra offers a moment of deep reflection before we reach the thunderous Vøringsfossen. Here, you’ll step onto the suspended walkway, hovering over a dramatic 182-meter drop into the abyss. We’ll complete our journey with a scenic drive back (around 5 hours) to Oslo, arriving in the late afternoon for final farewells. A perfect conclusion to our Arctic adventure, bridging the gap between wild nature and the modern capital. Distance: 4 km (2.5 mi) | Time: 1 hrs
Savor your final moments in Oslo with a slow morning in the heart of the city. Depending on your flight schedule, wander through the historic streets, discover hidden corners of Norwegian design, or find a quiet waterfront café to reflect on the week’s adventures. When it’s time to say goodbye to the land of the fjords, you will head to the airport for your return flight, carrying the wild spirit of the north home with you.
