Itinerary

A transfer picks us up at El Calafate airport, the gateway to Patagonia hiking tours. After checking in, we explore this lively town on Lago Argentino, known for its outdoor shops and museums. This is our starting point for discovering Los Glaciares National Park and its stunning landscapes. We recommend arriving around 12-1 PM.
We embark on a full-day Patagonia hiking trip to the Perito Moreno Glacier. A scenic boat ride brings us close to its massive 60-meter ice wall before we explore panoramic walkways. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a must-see, offering incredible views of one of the most famous Patagonia hiking trails.
After breakfast, a scenic transfer takes us to El Chaltén, Argentina’s hiking capital. Nestled in Los Glaciares National Park, this town is the gateway to Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre. We prepare our Patagonia hiking gear and explore the town before our upcoming treks. Distance: 220 km (136.7 mi) (driving)
We hike through native forests along the Río Blanco, stopping at Piedras Blancas Glacier. A steep final climb leads to Laguna de los Tres, offering a stunning view of Mount Fitz Roy. After a break, we descend back to El Chaltén. Distance: 22 km (13.6 mi) | Elevation Gain: +800 m (+2,625 ft) -800 m (-2,625 ft) | Time: 8-9 hours
Today’s hiking in Patagonia Argentina takes us through Lengas forests to Lake Torre and Grande Glacier. We return via the Fitz Roy River, stopping at a scenic viewpoint and Margarita Waterfall. This trek offers epic views of Cerro Torre. Distance: 20 km (12.4) | Elevation Gain: +800 m (+2,625 ft) -800 m (-2,625 ft) | Time: 6 hours
After breakfast, we take a regular transfer back to El Calafate, arriving at the airport by midday. From here, you can catch your flight home, marking the end of an unforgettable Patagonia hiking trip. Will arrive at the airport around 12 PM.

I learned about Mapo Tapo from a friend back home in the US and was a bit hesitant because I never booked a hiking tour group before. Mapo tapo takes care of everything behind the scenes so you can just show up, settle in to the hotels, and start exploring the towns on arrival. They connect you with local guides who are friendly, knowledgeable about local nature and wildlife, and fun to talk to during the whole trip. When we met the guide at El Chaltén, we were also able to change our day 5 hike as a group, so the whole trip felt really flexible and accommodating. We had plenty of time after the hikes each day to explore on our own as well. I would be more than happy to book my next hiking trip with mapo tapo next year!
