What you'll do

We sail through the remote fjords of Svalbard, just below the North Pole, in search of untouched slopes and true wilderness. The midnight sun lights our way as we ski tour from the shoreline to high alpine peaks, surrounded by glaciers, sea ice, and Arctic wildlife. Each day, we use the boat as our base, landing by dinghy and skinning straight from the beach. With no roads or phone coverage, this is a true expedition. We climb and ski wild terrain few have explored, experiencing Svalbard’s raw beauty in spring conditions. Ski & Sail is the ultimate way to discover the Arctic.

Itinerary

We meet at the dock in Longyearbyen at 4 PM and board our expedition boat. After settling in, we get familiar with the equipment, safety routines, and each other. We enjoy our first dinner while sailing a few miles out of the harbor, heading towards the first ski destination.
We start the trip skiing in Isfjorden, Svalbard’s most iconic fjord. Surrounded by dramatic peaks and glaciers, this area offers a wide range of ski touring options. After a full day in the mountains, we continue sailing north.
We explore the mountains around Forlandsundet, a narrow strait lined with skiable peaks on both sides. If conditions are rough, we seek shelter in St. Jonsfjorden and ski on big, open faces. Weather permitting, we may land on Prins Karls Forland, a remote and wild island.
We reach the remote settlement of Ny-Ålesund, located at 79°N. The surrounding area, known as Kongsfjorden, features vast glaciers and high alpine terrain—perfect for ski touring in an Arctic setting.
We now reach some of the best ski touring zones in Svalbard. We take our time to explore new lines, enjoying long descents and breathtaking views. Conditions and group energy help us decide where we go.
We continue touring in the fjords, with flexible plans based on snow and weather. Between ski runs, we relax onboard and enjoy the Arctic atmosphere - maybe even go for a dip between floating ice!
We begin sailing back towards Longyearbyen. If time and weather allow, we make one last ski stop along the way. The day remains flexible—this is an expedition, and we follow nature’s lead.
We wake up anchored in Isfjorden and squeeze in a last morning ski tour before sailing the final stretch back to Longyearbyen. We arrive by 4 PM, pack up, and clean the boat. The trip ends here—thank you for joining this Arctic Ski & Sail adventure!

Goxsheim Boat

Goxsheim is our unique traditional sailing yacht. Built 1940 originally as a fishing and freight boat in Western Norway. She has later been rigged as a sailing boat and has been used for Ski & Sail expeditions far north in the later years. There is plenty of space below deck with a galley amidships and a large and a cozy saloon with a fireplace that ensures a social experience for everyone on board. Goxsheim has 4 cabins for our guests, together with crew quarters. Comfort is ensured by a good central heating water-borne heating system, 2 bathrooms and one shower and all the beds are comfortable with good and warm down duvets and pillows.
