What you'll do

Embark on a 3-day, 36 km trek at the Mont Fallère foothills, peaking at 2,821m on Mont de Vertosan. Suitable for all mountain lovers with some fitness, this journey offers 2,700m of elevation gain through breathtaking alpine scenery without technical difficulties. Enjoy half-board stays in cozy refuges (Chaligne and Mont Fallère), ensuring a memorable experience with panoramic views rivaling the Tour du Mont Blanc. Perfect for those seeking alpine hikes and grand landscapes.

Itinerary

We meet at 8:00 AM in Saint-Oyen/Flassin, ready for a day filled with panoramic views and adventure. Our hike takes us up 1,470 meters to the serene Tza de Flassin (2,260m), before pushing towards the Colle Vertosan (2,821m) and Col Fenêtre (2,726m). As we walk, the majestic Mont Blanc is always in view, a perfect backdrop for our journey. Our path leads us south to the Mont Fallère Refuge, nestled in a vibrant green valley with the peaks of the Gran Paradiso valleys visible to the south, making it a breathtaking alpine hike.
After a hearty breakfast in the refuge, we skirt the southern edge of Mont Fallère, aiming for Col de Metz (2,487m) and Punta Chaligne (2,608m). The descent is steep but rewards us with arrival at the Chaligne Refuge, where we rest and rejuvenate. This leg, featuring a 550m ascent and a 1,010m descent over 5 to 6 hours, showcases panoramic trails and alpine vistas, offering a unique alternative to the classic Tour du Mont Blanc.
From the Chaligne Refuge, we descend to the Ars Valley, then weave through thick forests of fir and larch, ending our journey in the charming village of Étroubles, back to Saint-Oyen/Flassin. This day involves a 310m ascent and a 900m descent over 5 to 6 hours, closing our great alpine walking trail with stunning views and a sense of accomplishment.

Refuge Chaligne (1,936m) is a beautifully renovated mountain hut in Gignod, opened in 2006. It combines eco-friendly practices with local architecture, offering cozy accommodations for 36 guests and traditional Aosta Valley cuisine. Solar panels and tasteful decor emphasize its commitment to sustainability and local tradition.

Refuge Mont Fallère

Refuge Mont Fallère (2,385m) reflects Siro Viérin's vision of sharing his childhood memories with visitors. Opened in 2012 near Lac des Grenouilles, Saint Pierre, it features wooden sculptures and provides a genuine alpine experience, showcasing the area's natural beauty and local culture
