What you'll do

Join me (Instagram:@hej.jade) for an intimate expedition through the UNESCO-listed Dolomiti di Brenta, connecting with like-minded outdoor lovers and photographers to capture some of Europe's most spectacular landscapes. With focused workshops on landscape and film photography you'll develop the skills to capture everything from golden light on dramatic limestone towers to the quiet moments of mountain refuges. We start and finish with workshops on landscape and film photography, composition, storytelling, editing and colour grading. While hiking hut-to-hut, put your new skills into practice capturing stories with your fellow hikers with in-field tutorage (and unsolicited life advice) from me.This experience is designed to go beyond photography—it's about discovering your creative self in the majesty of the mountains with like-minded companions. You’ll no longer be the “one friend” on your hike stopping for photos - it’s actively encouraged! My past participants often describe this journey as life affirming and transformative, creating friendships and creative partnerships that endure long after returning from the mountains.

Itinerary

We meet at our hotel in Trento, Italy (just a few minutes walk from the main train station) and start our week together with a late afternoon 4 PM workshop to 6 PM, then get to know each other over dinner. You’ll be briefed for the next few days on what to expect, and we’ll talk about your photography intentions and what you want to learn from the trip. The starting photography workshop will explore compositional techniques for landscapes, film photography and creative approaches to storytelling that you can utilize in the field over the next week
After breakfast in the hotel (9:30 AM), we check our backpacks and are met by our mountain guide who will transport us to Rifugio Vallesinella where our trek begins! The path to Rifugio Brentei immediately immerses us in dramatic scenery—towering limestone cliffs and vibrant alpine meadows offering perfect subjects to practice your new skills. Situated on the edge of the escarpment and surrounded by towering spires, Rifugio Brentei offers the perfect mountain refuge photography. As evening approaches, capture the magical transformation of the peaks surrounding the hut before enjoying our first classic Italian refuge dinner together. Distance: 7 km (4.3 mi) | Elevation Gain: +500 m (+1,640 ft) -100 m (-328 ft) | Time: 3-4 hours
Our first sunrise in the mountains: we rise to capture the first light illuminating the valley and the refuge. After breakfast we journey toward the impressive Bocca di Brenta pass at 2,500 meters, where we’re presented with the opportunity to capture the immense scale, texture and contrast of the peaks. We break at Rifugio Pedrotti for lunch, sitting dramatically beneath towering limestone spires. After another short climb, we start the long descent, capturing the changing landscapes as we move from exposed alpine terrain to lusher environments, finally arriving at our accommodation for the evening: Rifugio Croz Dell'Altissimo. Distance: 9 km (5.5 mi) | Elevation Gain: +400 m (-1,312 ft) -1100 m (-3,608 ft) | Time: 5-6 hours
Today we ascend toward Passo del Clamer through varied terrain offering compelling studies in texture and contrast. Reaching the pass rewards us with sweeping vistas, perfect for wide panoramic compositions or pulling out the super-telephoto lens, before descending into the remote Val dei Cavalli (valley of the horses!). We end our day at Malga Spora - a classic Italian alpine pasture that cannot be accessed by roads. The afternoon is yours to unwind, taste the products homegrown by the alpine farm and share the afternoon together. Distance: 4.1 km (2.5 mi) | Elevation Gain: +727 m (+2,385 ft) -312 m (-1,024 ft) | Time: 3 hours
After another delicious refuge breakfast our day ascends into the magnificent Val Flavona, where the landscape transforms from pastures to rough textures of stone around Turrion Basso. This breathtaking cirque presents vertical walls rising from gentle valleys—a natural rock formation where we'll work with scale and perspective. After circling the valley, we climb toward Passo del Grosté. By late afternoon, we will reach Rifugio Stoppani - another refuge perfectly positioned above a sweeping valley view. After dinner, venture outside to capture the blue hour—that magical time when the landscape bathes in ethereal light, capturing the refuge's warm windows glowing against darkening mountains before tucking in for a deserved night of rest. Distance: 12 km (7.5 mi) | Elevation Gain: +1,100 m (+3,610 ft) -600 m (-1,970 ft) | Time: 6-7 hours
With another sunrise from the hut, we enjoy our final Italian refuge breakfast and start our descent through the rocky terrain that gradually transforms into vibrant meadows filled with alpine flowers. As we join the Vallesinella Waterfall Trail, our photography style changes from wide visas to instead capture the density and vibrancy of the valley's waterfalls. We experiment with different shutter speeds to capture both power and delicate motion. Completing our circuit at Rifugio Vallesinella, we transfer back to Trento by late afternoon. The afternoon is yours to unwind, rest your muscles and leisure over your incredible hike with your new friends. Distance: 7 km (4.3 mi) | Elevation Gain: +100 m (+330 ft) -1,000 m (-3,280 ft) | Time: 3-4 hours
Our final day begins with a leisurely breakfast before transitioning to our concluding photography workshop from 10 AM to 12 PM in the hotel. I will guide you through my complete editing workflow—from raw file selection, organisation, colour grading and stitching together stories. Processing your images while experiences remain fresh in your mind enhances your memories and story from the trip, benefiting from supportive group feedback and 1:1 tutorage. You'll depart with not only a portfolio of nostalgic images and downloadable teaching material from me, but also new perspectives, technical skills, and human connections that will enrich your creative practice for years to come. Many participants describe this experience as transformative and life affirming, transforming how they see themselves in relation to the natural world (6 PM).
