The Experience

Climbers from all over the world dream about the sandstone peaks of the Wadi Rum area – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – but few of them have the occasion of transforming that dream into reality. The Mapo Tapo team is as ambitious as that! Prepare to dive into the unknown for a once-in-a-lifetime experience with the precious support and competence of the Bedouins of Wadi Rum – your guides of reference for the trip – who have decade-long history and expertise of climbing in the country. Your basecamp for the trip will be the Bedouin outdoors Camp - a small family camp inside the Wadi Rum protected area, just 7km from the Wadi Rum village. The camp is eco-friendly: the water is brought directly from the Lawrence Spring and the food is cooked by the local Bedouins.

DAY 1

The arrival at the basecamp

Jump on the plane along with your fellow Mapo Tapo climbers and be ready to land in Amman –the Jordan city capital. We recommend to arrive the day before, just to rest a bit after the long travel and be ready to start the trip the day after! Ps: We can help you to book an extra night accommodation. If you arrive the first day, we reccommend to arrive until 12pm.

Together we sightsee the breath-taking Jordan landscapes until the first meeting point is reached: Wadi Rum Camp.

DAY 2

Climbing hard

After spending the night in the Bedouin camp, the sport-climbing can begin! We're off to experience some of the best crags of the Wadi Rum protected area, inaccessible without the precious guidance of the local Bedouins. After a full day of climbing, we're back to the camp, where we can shower, eat and drink some tea, resting for the next day.

DAY 3

The Bedouin road

Be ready to follow the legendary Bedouin Road. You will hike and scramble your way through Jebel Burdah following the Bedouin hunting route, up to the famous rock bridge. Later you will set out camp and bivouac in the desert under the stars.

Jordan is a small country with a powerful historical heritage, and climbers know this well

Jordan is a small country with a powerful historical heritage, and climbers know this well. It was in this Middle East country that the first forms of climbing emerged, as nomadic Bedouins were scrambling sandstone peaks searching for animals to hunt. Today, alongside the then-formed “Bedouin Roads”, Wadi Rum offers sandstone rocks for both sport and trad climbing while maintaining its nomadic wilderness at the core. The country's cultural and historical heritage is exemplified by one of the world's most famous archeological sites, Petra. Half-built and half-carved into the rock, the city was inhabited since prehistorical times and has been ever since a crossroads for many cultures: paying a visit is a must!
