What you'll do

Join us on the Rongai Route, Kilimanjaro's serene path from the north-east, skirting the Amboseli plains towards Uhuru Peak, west of Mawenzi. Known for its solitude and simplicity, it's ideal for camping and favored in the rainy season for its drier northern slopes. Choose your summit path: the popular Mawenzi Tarn Hut or the challenging School Hut, with prior acclimatization advised for the latter. Both lead to Gilman’s Point on the Crater Rim, offering a less-trodden journey to the peak.

Itinerary

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport where our team eagerly awaits to escort you to your hotel in Moshi. This day is yours to unwind or discover Moshi's allure. In the evening, we will receive a detailed trek briefing and an equipment review, perfectly setting the stage for our adventure. We set two pick-up times: 10 AM or 3 PM. So we recommend arriving at one of these two times.
Our journey commences from Nale Moru, traversing farmland and pine forests. Anticipate sightings of Colobus monkeys and potentially elephants or buffalos. We established our first camp at Simba Camp (2625m-8612ft), nestled on the moorland zone's fringe. Length: 8 km (5 m) Time: 4-5 hours
A gradual climb through the moorland brings us to Second Cave Camp (3480m-11417ft), where vistas of Kibo and the Eastern ice fields unfold. Length: 5 km (3.1 m) Time: 3-4 hours
Progressing beyond the pine forest, we ascend towards Mawenzi's jagged peaks, camping in a sheltered valley by Kikelewa Caves (3630m-11909ft). Length: 5 km (3.1 m) Time: 3-4 hours
A brisk climb through grassy slopes rewards us with magnificent views of the Kenyan plains en route to Mawenzi Tarn Hut (4310m-14140ft), located beneath Mawenzi's towering cliffs. Length: 8 km (5 m) Time: 4-5 hours
Trekking across the ‘saddle's lunar desert between Mawenzi and Kibo leads us to Kibo Hut (4700m-15420ft), where we rest in anticipation of the summit attempt. Length: 8 km (5 m) Time: 5-6 hours
Embark on the final ascent around midnight, reaching Uhuru Peak (5895m-19340ft) at sunrise. After descending to Kibo Hut for nourishment, we continue to Horombo Hut (3700m-12139ft). Length: 22 km (13,7 m) Time: 12-15 hours
Our return journey takes us through heath and moor to Marangu Gate (1860m-6102ft), then a transfer back to Moshi to celebrate your summit success. Length: 20,8 km (12,9 m) Time: 7-8 hours
A day of relaxation and reflection on your remarkable journey up Kilimanjaro concludes with a transfer to the airport for your homeward journey. We recommend leaving after dinner and having the last celebration with the guide.
