Itinerary

Arrival at the Djerba International Airport at 4 PM followed by transfer and accommodation in a charming hotel.
Morning departure to Tataouine and visit to Ksar Ouled Soltane, one of the most fascinating ancient granaries in the region. Continue to Chenini, a Berber village built into the mountainside, featuring two mosques, one carved into the rock. From Chenini, we begin our trek towards Douiret, crossing an arid plateau with stunning views of the plains below. After passing a mountain pass, we arrive at the spectacular Douiret. Overnight in a guest house. Distance: 8 km (5 mi) | Elevation Gain: +300 m (+985 ft) -150 m (-492 ft) | Time: 3 hours
This morning’s hike follows old mule tracks to the fortified village of Guermessa, perched on a rocky spur overlooking the plains. After lunch, we depart by 4x4 to visit Ksar Hadada, a filming location for Star Wars, before continuing to Zammour. From there, we take another scenic hike along a small trail leading to Ksar Hallouf, a less-visited but wilder counterpart to Matmata. Overnight in a troglodyte dwelling. Distance: 12 km (7.5 mi) | Elevation Gain: +450 m (+1,476 ft) -300 m (-985 ft) | Time: 5 hours
Leaving the Dahar region, we head towards Matmata, stopping to visit a traditional troglodyte house near Toujane, a beautiful Berber village clinging to a hillside. We continue by 4x4 to Douz, where we meet our desert trekking team: guides, camels, camel drivers, and a cook. Our caravan sets off towards the vast Grand Erg dunes, reaching our first desert camp in the afternoon. For many, it will be their first night under the stars in the desert. Distance: 10 km (6.2 mi) | Elevation Gain: +350 m (+1,150 ft) -400 m (-1,310 ft) | Time: 4 hours
We wake up to our first breakfast in the desert, with fresh bread prepared over an open fire. As the rising sun paints the dunes orange, we set off towards our next camp. A full day immersed in the vast expanse of the desert: a feast for the eyes and the soul. Distance: 12 km (7.5 mi) | Elevation Gain: +100 m (+328 ft) -100 m (-328 ft) | Time: 5 hours
Another beautiful day in the immense sea of sand. In the afternoon, we arrive at our second camp near a marabout (a small desert shrine), surrounded by dunes. Distance: 12 km (7.5 mi) | Elevation Gain: +100 m (+328 ft) -100 m (-328 ft) | Time: 5 hours
By late morning, we reach the Ben Chroud marabout, marking the end of our desert journey. It’s time to say goodbye to our Berber team and camels. Departing by 4x4, we head to Matmata for lunch before continuing to Djerba, arriving in the late afternoon. Overnight in a charming hotel. Distance: 8 km (5 mi) | Elevation Gain: +150 m (+492 ft) -200 m (-656 ft) | Time: 3 hours
