Itinerary

We meet at the dock in Henningsvær at 16:00. Once aboard, we have the chance to meet the crew and fellow participants. Prior to departure, we take time to explore the boat, review the onboard equipment, and discuss fundamental sailing concepts, including sail management. Additionally, we examine the planned itinerary and make any necessary adjustments based on the weather conditions and group dynamics. Eventually, we set off and navigate toward an anchorage located just outside Henningsvær.
Just outside Henningsvær, there are impressive granite walls that attract climbers throughout the summer. If conditions and schedule permit, we kick off the morning with a warm-up climb on these cliffs. We review mountain safety, rope-team procedures, and choose routes that match our skill level. After a few solid hours of climbing, we enjoy a hearty lunch back on board. In the afternoon, our goal is to cross Vestfjorden to Manshausen, a journey that typically takes 4-5 hours depending on the wind conditions. Upon arrival, we unwind and prepare for the next day's adventure—there’s even a sauna available for those interested!
After enjoying breakfast, we lace up our mountain boots and set off for the Nordskot ridge traverse. This journey takes approximately 6-8 hours, beginning from Nordskot and ascending to Sørskottind, before continuing onto the ridge. A brief but steep 4-5 meter rappel awaits us before we fully access the ridge, which links the northern and southern peaks of Skotstindan. Once we descend, we hike back through the scenic Skotsdalen valley. After the trek, we take a break for a meal before setting sail for Hamarøy later in the evening. We anchor amidst the archipelago at the base of the towering Hammarøyskaftet mountain, preparing for the next day's adventure.
In the morning, we reach Hamarøy by dinghy and set off on our ascent to the stunning peak of Hamarøyskaftet. This challenging journey, taking approximately 6-8 hours, involves more climbing than the previous day and serves as excellent preparation for tackling Stetind. After completing the climb, we gather by the shore to relax and enjoy a cozy bonfire.
We continue our voyage northward through Tysfjord, heading towards the iconic Stetind. After three days of climbing, we take a well-deserved break, although this day serves as a backup for our Stetind ascent depending on the weather conditions. Along the way, we pass by the historic Tranøy lighthouse, a significant landmark in Vestfjorden. We make a stop to enjoy a coffee while learning about the rich local history of Tranøy, where funds were allocated for the lighthouse’s construction as early as 1863, making it a site with a fascinating past.
It was the British mountaineer William Cecil Slingsby who used these words about Norway’s national mountain Stetind. Conquering this peak is our ultimate goal for the adventure—an exhilarating full-day challenge. The ascent can take anywhere from 10 to 18 hours, depending on weather conditions and group dynamics. However, after spending several days together, we will have developed into efficient rope teams, fully prepared for the climb. Stetind was first successfully ascended in 1910 by a Norwegian team of three climbers, led by Ferdinand Schjelderup. When the mountain was officially named Norway's national mountain in 2002, Arne Næss described it as a breathtaking experience, saying: “Stetind is an incredible climb. Rising straight from the sea, it steepens in the most magnificent way. The granite is solid and of exceptional quality, almost as if the mountain itself is assisting you upwards.”
After yesterday’s long and challenging adventure, today we relax and enjoy our final voyage across Vestfjorden, making our way back to Bodø. The journey will take several hours, with our expected arrival late in the evening. Should the weather have prevented our Stetind climb yesterday, we have this day as a final opportunity to attempt it. In that case, we will face an extended and demanding overnight sail back to Bodø, navigating through the darkness. Despite the challenge, the experience will undoubtedly be rewarding!
On our final morning, we wake up in the harbor of Bodø, taking time to pack our belongings, clean, and organize the boat before concluding our journey at 10:00. For our last breakfast together, we have the option to enjoy a meal at the nearby Thon Hotel, known for serving the best breakfast in town. A heartfelt thank you to everyone for an unforgettable adventure!
