What you'll do

The Mini Haute Route is the perfect bite-sized version of one of the Alps’ most legendary treks. In just five days, you’ll walk from the lively mountain resort of Verbier to the quiet village of Zinal—crossing wild passes, sleeping in remote huts, and moving through some of Switzerland’s most breathtaking mountain scenery. You’ll climb to panoramic cols like Termin, Prafleuri, and Torrent, walk along turquoise lakes, and experience the true high-alpine feel of the Pennine Alps. Each day brings a mix of challenge and reward: the solitude of rocky landscapes, the thrill of famous spots like Pas de Chèvres, and the cozy warmth of huts such as Cabane de Louvie and Cabane de Moiry. It’s a journey that connects valleys, glaciers, and cultures—all while keeping the focus on what matters most: pure mountain immersion.

Itinerary

We'll meet in Le Chable at 10.30AM, which is on the Swiss train network. From there, we will take the telecabine up to Verbier (1,500 m), and you start with a steady climb from Les Ruinettes toward Col de Termin (2,648 m), with the Grand Combin keeping you company across the skyline. From the col, an easy descent leads to the peaceful shores of Lac de Louvie and the Cabane de Louvie (2,250 m). It’s the perfect first night in true Haute Route mood: big views, simple comforts, and starry skies. Distance: 12 km (7.5 mi) | Elevation gain: +900m (2,953ft) -200m (656ft) | Time: 5–6 hours
A wild, high-alpine traverse across two rugged passes: Col de Louvie (2,921 m) and Col de Prafleuri (2,987 m). Expect rocky terrain, a remote feel, and sweeping views over the Dix basin. Descend to reach Cabane de Prafleuri (2,624 m), a classic stop on the Haute Route where the remoteness really sinks in. Distance: 10 km (6.5 mi) | Elevation gain: +950m (3,117ft) -600m (1,969ft) | Time: 6–7 hours
Climb to Col des Roux (2,804 m) for a balcony view along Lac des Dix, then continue to the famous Pas de Chèvres (2,855 m) with its metal ladders (or take the Col de Riedmatten, 2,919 m, as a ladder-free alternative). A long descent brings you to the village of Arolla (1,998 m) for a well-earned rest. Distance: 17 km (10.6 mi) | Elevation gain: +900m (2,953ft) -1,500m (4,921ft) | Time: 7–8 hours
A short local bus transfer to Evolène sets you up for the big climb to Col de Torrent (2,918 m). From the pass, views of Dent Blanche and the Moiry Glacier steal the show. Descend to the Moiry dam area, then continue up to Cabane de Moiry (2,850 m, hut above the dam) for a spectacular night in glacial scenery. Distance: 15 km (9.3 mi) | Elevation gain: +1,000m (3,281ft) -1,200m (3,937ft) | Time: 7–8 hours
From Cabane de Moiry, traverse the high path to Col de Sorebois (2,835 m). The panorama across Val d’Anniviers is immense. A long, satisfying descent brings you into Zinal (1,675 m), by 3PM, the perfect alpine village to close your Verbier-to-Zinal mini traverse. Legs tired, memory card full. Distance: 10 km (6.5 mi) | Elevation gain: +600m (1,969ft) -1,300m (4,265ft) | Time: 5–6 hours
