Embark on a 4-day trek towards the iconic Toblerone Mountain (the Matterhorn) in the Swiss Alps, an adventure filled with spectacular views. This journey takes you through picturesque landscapes, offering a mix of challenging trails and moments of serene beauty. As you navigate the paths, each turn reveals breathtaking vistas of the Alps, immersing you in the tranquility of nature. Join us to experience the essence of Swiss hiking, where every step is a memory in the making.

Itinerary

We meet in Randa (in front of the Klein Matterhorn Hotel, next to the train station), a picturesque village on the train route to Zermatt, at 12.30 pm, marking the start of our adventure. We ascend the rugged path to the Europa Hut, perched at an elevation of over 2220 meters. Here, amidst the stunning panorama of the Swiss Alps, we'll spend our evening in a cosy mountain hut. Distance: 4,5 km (2.7 mi) | Elevation Gain: +930 m (+3,051,18 ft) -80 m (-262,46 ft) | Time: 2-3.5 hours
Our adventure continues as we cross the Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge, looking at the engineering marvel that spans 494 meters, making it the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the Alps. Our path, the Europaweg trail, leads us up to a secluded mountain hut at 2700 meters. Surrounded by glaciers and towering peaks, the enviroment truly embodies the spirit of hiking in Switzerland. Distance: 9 km (5.5 mi) plus 5 km optional | Elevation Gain: +700 m (+2,296 ft) plus +500 m (+1,640 ft) -800 m (-2,624 ft) or -1300 m (-4.265,092 ft)| Time: 4-6 hours ps: This original trail may deviate due to a landslide along the way, which could significantly extend the day's trekking, up to 20 km (12 mi).
We venture closer to the iconic Matterhorn, with each step on the trail bringing new vistas and shared wonders. Our stop at the ZeSeewjinu mountain hut offers us unforgettable views of the Matterhorn, especially as we relax on the terrace, savoring wine or beer together. Distance: 13.6 km (8.4 mi) | Elevation Gain: +750 m (+2,460 ft) -600 m (-1,968 ft) | Time: 6-8 hours
Our final day's trek takes us along the captivating Five Lakes trail, where the Matterhorn's reflection in the lakes offers a serene backdrop for reflection and shared memories. Together, we descend to Zermatt around lunchtime (we will finish at Zermatt station by 2 pm), ready to catch the train back to Geneva, Zurich, or Milan arrival by 6pm (allowing you to fly home after 8pm) carrying with us the memories of the best hiking experiences in Switzerland. Distance: 8 km (4.9 mi) | Elevation Gain: +200 m (+656 ft) -900 m (-2,952 ft) | Time: 4-6 hours

I did the “HIKING AROUND THE MATTERHORN IN THE SWISS ALPS” 4-day trek with Alps Adventures and it was great! It was my first trek and oh man- what an experience!! It was difficult but super rewarding. The huts were comfortable and we ended everyday with good company and a few beers. Our guides, Ben and Sandy, were knowledgeable, encouraging, and VERY patient. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to try another!

As a service aggregator, your only job is to make sure the info on your site is correct. Apparently this could not be managed for my trip. The mileage was off (28km vs 40km), the meeting time ended up being 12:30 when it said 2:30 on the site. Also, I could do without being added to two separate group chats. There was a mapotapo group which really never needed to be there. The only groupchat I need to be in is the one with activity participants and the guide. A final point for my hiking around the Matterhorn trip, it says the Klein Matterhorn hotel offers luggage storage, but in actuality the man at reception (owner?) was very begrudging about it and was rude to our entire group. I would say the better option may have been to suggest use of the luggage lockers in Zermatt

Charles made this an excellent experience! He was an excellent guide from knowledge about the terrain, floura, glaciers. He really helped bring out my childlike curiousity of the new lands we were exploring. He was also so intentional and helped bring a normal hiking experience into a transformative spiritual one. The first hut we traveled to had some issues with the shower but apart from that it was excellent top tier experience that I reccommend
